GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Rennes – Pioli settles on back four after doubt

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli seems to have settled on his choices regarding the team that will take to the field against Stade Rennais tonight.

According to what is being reported by this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), the major doubt in the team has been resolved as Simon Kjaer will get the nod to start after overcoming muscle discomfort.

He will partner Matteo Gabbia in the centre of the defence, with Alessandro Florenzi playing as the right-back given Davide Calabria is injured, and Sunday’s winning goalscorer Theo Hernandez on the left completing the back four.

There will be a double change in midfield compared to the team that beat Napoli with Tijjani Reijnders coming back from suspension to partner Yunus Musah, meaning Ismael Bennacer and Yacine Adli start on the bench.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will act ahead of them as the attacking midfielder, flanked by Christian Pulisic to the right and Rafael Leao on the left, and the line will be led by Olivier Giroud.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Kjaer, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Musah, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Probable Rennes XI (4-2-3-1): Mandanda; G. Doue, Omari, Theate, Truffert; Bourigeaud, Matusiwa, Santamaria, D. Doue; Kalimuendo, Terrier.
