GdS: Probable XIs for Empoli vs. Milan – a chance for Adli in midfield

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli appears to have settled on the starting line-up that will take to the field against Empoli in today’s early kick-off in Serie A.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) reports that Mike Maignan will be in goal with Davide Calabria at right-back and Alessandro Florenzi at left-back. That means Theo Hernandez will be used as a centre-back again, alongside Simon Kjaer.

The paper predicts a midfield three with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders as the two box-to-box players either side of the deep-lying playmaker Yacine Adli, given that Ismael Bennacer is now away at the African Cup of Nations.

In attack it should be what is clearly the first choice front three, with Christian Pulisic on the right wing, Rafael Leao on the opposite flank and Olivier Giroud down the middle.

Luka Jovic will be able to lend a hand off the bench given that he is in red hot form, while Yunus Musah should be available to come on too, as will Chaka Traore after his goal in the Coppa Italia in midweek.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Hernandez, Florenzi; Loftus-Cheek, Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

Probable Empoli XI (4-3-1-2): Caprile; Ebuehi, Ismajli, Walukiewicz, Luperto; Marin, Grassi, Maleh; Baldanzi; Caputo, Cambiaghi.
