GdS: Probable XIs for Hellas Verona vs. Milan – Pioli remains loyal after Chelsea loss

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is not expected to make any changes to the team that lost to Chelsea in midweek for Sunday’s trip to face Hellas Verona.

Hellas Verona appointed former Milan defender Salvatore Bocchetti as their new head coach yesterday after a bad run of results landed them inside the bottom three, and while their team might therefore be a bit harder to predict it seems the Rossoneri’s is a bit more straightforward.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) believe Ciprian Tatarusanu will be in goal to cover for the injured Mike Maignan who should return against Monza, while Matteo Gabbia and Fikayo Tomori will be the centre-backs with Pierre Kalulu and Theo Hernandez the full-backs.

The midfield should consist of the usual double pivot of Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali, with Rade Krunic listed as being the right winger. Brahim Diaz is tipped to be the playmaker with Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud completing the attack.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Gabbia, Tomori, Theo; Tonali, Bennacer; Diaz, Krunic, Leao; Giroud

Probable Verona XI (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Hien, Gunter, Cabal; Pharaohs, Tameze, Veloso, Doig; Hrustic, Verdi; Henry.

  1. Why would Giroud play again. He hasn’t performed well for a month. Do like Liverpool did with Salah and bench him. Maybe he’ll get some form back. Rebic deserves more playtime. He always does well up top with his work and press game. Giroud can come of the bench when the other team is more tited and maybe have an edge from coming on fresh.

    1. Very true, Giroud is exhausted and Rebic can help a lot.
I am also surprised with Krunic on the RW – he is clearly not fit for this role. 4-3-3 seems the right formation with Diaz as RW and a 3rd midfielder next to Tonali/Bennacer. It could be Adli or Vrankx or even Krunic but in this role, not RW. This will also benefit a lot Tonali/Bennacer.

  2. Pioli is really passing all off with his experimentation. Krunic a winger? Like putting Tomori left back against Chelsea.. that’s why Milan is inconsistent with this clown called Pioli

    1. He’s not a winger, it just amateurish journalism. If they actually watched the last 2 games they would know that diaz played as a RW, not Krunic or Pobega.
Anyway, I highly doubt we’ll see this eleven. I think there is no way Giroud will start.
