GdS: Probable XIs for Inter vs. Milan – the choices of Inzaghi and Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli and his Inter counterpart Simone Inzaghi have made their selection choices ahead of tonight’s Champions League semi-final second leg.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), Pioli should start with Mike Maignan in goal and a back four of Davide Calabria and Malick Thiaw – in for Simon Kjaer – plus Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez.

Sandro Tonali is expected to be rejoined by Rade Krunic in the midfield pairing, with Brahim Diaz ahead of them in the playmaker role given that Ismael Bennacer has suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Alexis Saelemaekers is the favourite to start over Junior Messias on the right, with Olivier Giroud leading the like and Rafael Leao on the left side of the attack, returning from an adductor problem.

Inter meanwhile are expected to name the exact same team as Wednesday night with Andre Onana in goal, Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni as the back three, with Denzel Dumfries and Federico Dimarco as wing-backs.

Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan should be the midfield three behind the front two of Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Krunic; Saelemaekers, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

Probable Inter XI (3-5-2): Onana; Darmian, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Dzeko, Martinez.

  1. Imagine if M&M bring Dybala ( FREE ) instead CdK for AMF, Zaniolo instead Messias for RW, Kolo Muani ( FREE ) instead Origi for CF.
We dont have to suffer like this
    Smh

    1. We might not even be in the Semis, or we might win it all, nobody knows.

My point is, STOP speculating, we don’t know what’s gonna happen, this is what we have now and give these players credits to at least have managed to reach here. No point to keep looking back and wondering what it could’ve or should’ve been, hindsight is 20/20. Just hope that the management would learn from this torrid season.

      1. Lol credits for who ?
Cdk, messias or origi ? These guys never bring huge improvements for the squad or at least bring little change to the game. Virtually all of the reserve options is disappointed

      2. I think it is fair comment.
It is not hindsight either, this was all very obvious last summer.
So yes fans should be angry and hold the ownership/management to account.
It is mind boggling what a mess they have made and the opportunity to return to the elite they have blown

  2. Diaz as AMC…sigh…. Seems our only option now right.

    Ownership
    Management
    Directors
    Coach
All to blame for how the season has gone. Much of it was obviously predictable too.
