GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Juventus – key player returns for the Rossoneri

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will take on Juventus at San Siro tomorrow evening looking to right the wrongs of the midweek defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

A sold out San Siro will witness a historic rivalry renewed, and La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) are reporting that Theo Hernandez will be back in the starting line-up for Milan, with Sergino Dest, Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori completing the back four in front of Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali will keep their places in the double pivot from the Chelsea defeat with Rade Krunic expected to remain on the right wing and Rafael Leao on the left wing.

Charles De Ketelaere – who is looking for his first goal as a Milan player – is tipped to be the playmaker behind Olivier Giroud, who will start yet again.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Krunic, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud.

Official Juventus XI (4-4-2): Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, Bremer, Alex Sandro; McKennie, Paredes, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Milik.

    1. Totally agreed . Dest just should not start any games for Milan for the foreseeable future . He was one of the main reasons the players had no spirit( uncharacteristically) in the last game , players know when they can win and when they can’t win and we couldn’t being continually overpowered in midfield and the flanks. Kalulu just has to play right back for the moment and Gabbia should be given a chance with Tomori as CB’s.

  1. I would love to see kalulu RB and Gabbia or Thiaw at CB. Better than having Dest at rightback after that horror show vs Chelsea

  2. Diaz should play as the RWF Krunic lacks the pace and skill a RWF should have, he’s good at anywhere in the midfield but not forward

  3. Choosing Dest makes little sense also from tactical point of view. Juve plays with tall and not super fast strikers (Vlahovic, Milik) and we already know that the aerial duels is the weakest part of Kalulu/Tomori. Gabbia suits better in CB and Kalulu in RB – at least in this game.

  4. What is so special about using Krunic on the right wing because to me that’s the biggest mistake the coach is doing. There are options to explore like moving CDK to RW and fielding either Brahim Diaz or Adli. Or better still use Adli on the RW. Some other teams do have injury crisis and they improvise with a change of formation but Mr. Pioli is just bent on the 4,2,3,1 formation which currently we do not have the personnel to prosecute this tactics. Like the Chelsea game I thought after seeing how disappointing Ballo and Dest played the best option would have been bringing an extra defender so as to help spread Kalulu to the right and Tomori to the left when we are being attacked by the opposition.
I also don’t understand why he can’t try Rebic or Diaz on the RW here, certainly we have nothing to lose at this point but surely both will be better than having Lord Krunic there.

  5. Yeah, let’s use the same team(with one exception) that got humiliated in the last match, what could possibly go wrong?
Pioli is taking his adversity to change to a whole new level.

  6. Hey guys, I was at the Chelsea game on Weds and I completely back up what others are saying vis a vis Dest. You could see up close how is movement and body positioning was preventing the pass out wide time and time again. He just wasnt on the same wavelength as the others (same with ballo but at least he kept showing for the ball). Gabbia all the way at CB and i think kalulu relishes the chance to bomb on so its not a prob having him out there esp if the overload will be back on the left with theo coming back in.

  7. Pioli change formation
    3412 or 4321 or 4312
To as afraid to take risk, always playing safe, costed us two draws sass and altan games

  8. Say what you wish about CDK or Krunic. My biggest disappointment has to be Dest. Wasnt he chased by Bayern, Chelsea and Barcelona “won” the bid?
What the heck happened to him! .. There goes to show, just because Bayern and Barcelona want a player and pay millions, doesnt mean he’s good.

    1. He’s just low on confidence and in poor form. He is not magically a player without talent anymore. A young player who comes through Ajax and was wanted by several European giants may not pan out right away, or ever, but that doesn’t mean they were never good. Take Odegaard for example. Madrid fans were saying the same things about him and look at him now shining with Arsenal.

  9. GABIJA mora na teren momak je odličan Dest katastrofa i nadalje Milan mora bit ubojitiji i to REBIĆ ljevo a LEAO desno centralno ŽIRU ILI ORIGI !!!! De katelare VAN on je još u pelenama treba ADLI ili BRAHIM DIAS umjesto njega !!!!

  10. Krunic is not a RW! He doesn’t have the skill set or pace. Go with a different formation. CDK is not working in the 10 spot anyway.

  11. Pioli won the league out of share grit of the players, not his tactical prowess.
The is a great motivator but a very poor coach.
Rebic can be devastating on the RWF, Kalulu would excel in RWB.
You don’t field Dest, the 3rd choice RWB in high profile games, Krunic is more of a CDM, he knows very little about attacking.
Milan is back in the realm of winning trophies, to remain there Pioli would be replaced.
