GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Napoli – how Pioli will cope without Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is expected to make forced changes to the attack for the visit of Napoli to San Siro on Sunday, a report claims.

According to the latest from La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below), Milan should line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation despite rumours of a potential switch to a 4-3-3 or a 4-3-2-1, with Mike Maignan in goal protected by a back four of Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez.

The midfield double pivot should be Ismael Bennacer and Sandro Tonali, with Charles De Ketelaere taking back his spot from Brahim Diaz as the central attacking midfielder behind the centre-forward Olivier Giroud.

With Rafael Leao suspended after getting a red card in the win at Sampdoria, Alexis Saelemaekers is expected to shift over the the left wing with Junior Messias on the right flank to complete the line-up.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Messias, De Ketelaere, Saelemaekers; Giroud.

Probable Napoli XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Kim; Oliveira; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Raspadori, Kvaratskhelia.

    1. Ha ha “Kvaradona”.
Calabria will actually be fine vs Kvara. Davide is pretty good in 1v1 and Kvara isn’t some lightning fast player

      1. Next to Assies and Brahim (not counting Salad, because he is actually showing improvement), Calabria is our weakest starter. Praying to all deities that Dest gets close to his levels at Ajax so we don’t have to field this clown anymore.

        1. Sorry for you…. Because you don’t know anything about football….. Make your research David Calabria is the most underrated in right back…. Both in serial A and Europe. Very consistent, kindly name your best top 20 right back in Europe…. The only right-back that can play anywhere in the midfield just like Daniel Alves. The only thing is that is not a strong and rugged player… But very tactical. Name a player in seria A that ALWAYS passed him, at list for the past 2 to 3 seasons

        2. I doubt where u watch Milan matches. Calabria is a rock at back, players don’t run pass him easily. He is defensively very okay. He lacks a good cross I know. Messias is the most useless player in the team. He doesn’t create chances, does not cross and can not track back to help Calabria in defense. I think pioli is punishing us with messias

          1. Uh,oh. Another one!

Keep am coming, Twitter loves stuff like this. If i collect enough of them, I think we will start a poll, see who is the most clueless person on these boards.

Thank you for your contribution and for the laughs.

  1. Saelemaekers is the best option for the left wing, I’m very convinced he’ll do well considering his defensive attributes, he’ll also help Theo to push upward well. 3 point certain

  2. My reshuffled starting 11 just for this game
    4321
    maignan
    Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo
    Bennacer, Tonali, Pobega
    CDK, Brahim
    Giroud
We need that extra, more physical midfielder to go vs Anguissa, who is the new bully on the block since Kessie’s departure from Serie A. Need Tonali on Zielinski.
Up top i think, without Leao, CDK & Brahim with their skill & shiftiness can cause some trouble for the defense and supply some balls for Giroud

    1. Diaz is the most useless player, let’s forget about the likes and the fact that his always eager to impress can’t help him. Can someone tell me about Diaz’s strong foot? Cos both foot are weak. He just shoots anyhow, doesn’t play with the teams, he want to be 2nd to leao. Let him go back to small teams. He will pick up.

  3. Napoli looked very tired in the CL, they got lucky with the penalties. They have a good team but they will be fatigued in sunday, so i think we have better chances of winning even without Leao and Rebic. Of course Pioli needs to get his tactics right too. But in general we should be the favorite. We also play on home field.

    1. Note; this Milan team play better when away than at home, check last season’s records or the season before last season. But presently this team just give it all either home and away which is the sweetest things about the team. 💯

  4. He got it very right, I don’t think it will be better to complicate what is already working…..if we are leading hopeful at 75th minute then we can switch to back 3 but this is best thing to do, well-done pioli
