AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is ‘destined to play a leading role’ under the leadership of Ralf Rangnick next season, a report claims.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport on Friday (via MilanLive), Calhanoglu is a player much appreciated by Rangnick due to his ability to play as a central midfielder, a winger, attacking midfielder and even as a regista in an emergency.
Inconsistency has been a problem for the Turkey international but under the German manager there is the hope that he could make that leap in quality that has been expected for some time.
There is already talk of an exploratory phone call from the Red Bull chief, with the 61-year-old having reassured the midfielder of his centrality in the new project.
Rangnick, in fact, has long wanted to focus strongly on Calhanoglu as he did everything possible to bring him to Germany.
Calhanoglu’s current contract is set to expire in 2021, but the paper concludes by saying this is not an issue – a renewal will be signed without problems.
