AC Milan owners RedBird Capital were able to celebrate a success across the Alps yesterday as Toulouse beat Nantes 5-1 in the Coupe de France final.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, the triumph in Paris yesterday has Cardinale dreaming of a win for Milan in Istanbul, which will of course be complicated given there is a semi-final still to play but is still worth aiming for.
Toulouse raised the French Cup to the sky yesterday after putting five past Nantes, and the ‘Moneyball’ model has paid off for them. They are a team designed thanks to algorithms – starting from the coach Montanier – and the resources of the training centre.
Toulouse winning a trophy inevitably reverberates on Milan, who share ownership with the French club. Cardinale is expected in Milan for the first leg of the derby on 10 May, but in the meantime the signs from Toulouse are good because the project – innovative and visionary – rests on solid foundations.
It obviously cannot be replicated with the Rossoneri because they have different expectations and a different budget, but it is certainly a model from which at least something can be drawn.
By winning the cup, Toulouse also gained access to the 2023-24 Europa League, as happens for those who win the Coppa Italia The problem is that according to the UEFA regulation the same property cannot have two clubs in the same European competition, or in related competitions.
Toulouse therefore risk being expelled from the Europa League, because Italy is in a better position than France in the UEFA rankings in terms of leagues.
If Milan do not go beyond qualifying for the Europa League, Toulouse would automatically be expelled. With Milan in the Champions League, the scenario would potentially be the same, even if these are two different competitions.
However, something similar happened in the 2017-18 season, with the two Red Bull clubs – Leipzig and Salzburg – both in the Europa League. The simultaneous presence was allowed by the fact that Red Bull owned Leipzig, but had previously made corporate changes to Salzburg.

I dont believe solely in Moneyball but I do understand stats as a helpful aide to driving a stranger strategy. These are the articles where the anti money ball and anti US owners commenters are silent
Very well said
