GdS: Roma put Milan winger on shortlist of potential Zaniolo replacements

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Suso is one of three players Roma are considering to replace the injured Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report.

Zaniolo suffered a terrible blow on Sunday as he left the field in tears during the Giallorossi’s 2-1 defeat to Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.

He was taken to a local hospital where scans confirmed their worst fears: the playmaker ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the season, plus potentially the 2020 European Championships. We wish Zaniolo all the best in his recovery.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira, the capital club have sprung into action to try and source a replacement this month, with three names having been shortlisted.

On their list are Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul, however the Friulians are asking for €35m to part with their prized asset this month, while Inter’s Matteo Politano – a reported target for Milan – is also being considered.

Interestingly, Schira adds that Suso is one of the three names Roma are weighing up amid doubts over the Spaniard’s future at Milan. He was left out of Saturday’s 2-0 win over Cagliari, and given Stefano Pioli’s switch to a 4-4-2 his days at San Siro could be numbered, especially following a poor start to the season.
