GdS: Romero’s pre-season work is giving Pioli second thoughts about a loan deal

By Euan Burns -

The performances both in matches and in training of Luka Romero are forcing Stefano Pioli to have second thoughts about loaning the 18-year-old to a new team this summer, a report claims.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentine youngster has been one of the standout players since the team rejoined at Milanello and then flew to the United States of America.

Romero can play in the centre but he seems to be at his best on the right wing, an area where Milan intend to have two players that are more senior than him. Christian Pulisic has already arrived and Samuel Chukwueze is expected to follow shortly.

That means that there is stiff competition for that part of Pioli’s 4-3-3 formation. The impressive showing in pre-season, the headline being a superb goal against Real Madrid, means that Pioli has to consider if Romero can stay for the season and challenge.

  1. There needs to be a clear plan.
If Pioli will seriously consider him as part of the rotation he should stay, but if he uses him once a month, then Romero needs to go on loan where he can play regularly and gain experience.
He undoubtedly has a lot of talent.

  2. With his talent, and he’s only freakin 18 years old, no doubt he should stay. Opportunity to train with Milan’s first team, getting used to that rhythm, while maybe playing in a game or two every once in awhile, will do him good. If we get Chuk, we have to part ways with Alexis too (aside of the obvious one, Junior). To make room for this talent. Except Alexis is willing to accept different role, maybe as RB as he was when he first joined Milan.

    1. If Chukwueze is the starting RW and Romero the sub, then Romero should stay. But if Messia is the sub and Romero the 3rd choice RW then he should go somwhere where he will get playing time. He would hardly get 100min under Pioli as a 3rd choice RW.

      1. That’s exactly why Messias needs to leave. With all respect to Messias for what he’s done, it’s time to part ways.

Chukwueze + Romero for RW, with Messias and Saelasmaekers out.

      2. Obviously, Junior is the first one who needs to go, as I indicated above. Even without the arrival of Chuk. As Pulisic is also fluent on the right side.

  3. Chuk is the starter for sure IF he comes, Romero 2nd, Sala should be kept for depth for RW and RB. Messias will fetch $2-3m from a club like Torino. We will finally have a proper attack instead of just hoping that Leao or Theo makes a genius run.
