GdS: Scamacca, Morata, Openda – Milan targeting three very different No.9s

By Oliver Fisher -

There are three main candidates for AC Milan as they look for a starting centre-forward ahead of the new season, according to a report.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan no longer want Olivier Giroud to have to carry the entire weight of the attack along with Rafael Leao, and thus they are looking to help him out with at least one signing.

Gianluca Scamacca: West Ham are currently resisting to the idea of allowing Scamacca to leave on loan, but he fits the bill for Milan given he knows Serie A and is 24 years of age.

He has completed recovery from the operation on his right knee, necessary after the meniscus injury which in April had forced him to end his first season in England early. In total he scored eight goals in 27 appearances, which is not enough for a €36m investment.

CEO Giorgio Furlani is in London for the negotiations with Chelsea for Loftus-Cheek and Pulisic, but it cannot be ruled out that he will move from one area of the city to another to talk about Scamacca.

Alvaro Morata: There are two things working in the Spaniard’s favour: he would cost €10m and would immediately say yet to the move. Compared to Scamacca, Morata has a much better record in goals (eight seasons in double figures in his career) but is already 30 and seems to have hit his ceiling.

However, he too knows Serie A well and is very familiar with Italy thanks to Alice, his wife born in Mestre. The value of the clause will not undergo changes during the window, but it seems that Milan are not yet entirely convinced by the operation.

Lois Openda: The Belgian had an excellent season with RC Lens scoring 21 goals in 38 league games and is currently at the U21 European Championships with Charles De Ketelaere. Openda was linked earlier in the window and could be back in fashion.

There are obstacles here too, represented by the big competition. He is also a different type of striker, because if Scamacca and Morata have a physical presence to assert themselves, Openda is more of a dribbler and uses his speed and movement.

Different paths that lead to goal, but Milan need to reach their destination.

  1. None of them are free, so none of them will come.

I thought that last year was the most depressing Mercato, boy I was wrong. This year we sell out best playerS (more will be sold) and none are bought. Only free transfers.

    1. We almost buy RLC, he is not free. Quit your negativity, or at least use the correct facts.

It’s not even July. The transfer window isnt even officially open yet. Calm down.

    1. Yeah, I was just about to comment that they should decide which story is true and which is not. My money is on the “not 10M€” one.

  2. Retegui?

If those are the three then clearly there’s no direction.

We either want another younger Giroud, or we want a different type of player. Openda is a different type of player, Scamacca and a a younger Giroud type…Morata is a non starter

    There is no plan

    1. I don’t know much about him mate but what I hear is good. He’d be great but I think arsenal are interested and we can’t afford him

  3. Saw Openda play out of curiosity and I’m trying to figure out why is price is so high wtf 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    1. Young, 21 goals at France. A league where 32 years old Lafayette almost become top scorers after flopping for years at Arsenal.

      That’s basically it.
