GdS: ‘New striker for the summer’ – the seven targets on Milan’s list

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud will either renew his contract with AC Milan or leave on a free transfer, but that decision will not impact one the club have already made: to spend on a new striker.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) reports that Milan could feasibly go into next season with Giroud, Luka Jovic plus a third striker who is young and seen as the option for the future.

Who is the right profile? RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is admired because of his size, the fact he scores goals and he can grow plenty. He has seven goals this season, but struggles to play consistently after moving from Austria to Germany.

He would cost a lot, but this is the theme that Milan will have to get used to regardless of who they go for. The management know they have to invest a lot because strikers are not put on sale for cheaper than they are worth.

There is no shortage of options though, starting with Joshua Zirkzee already knows that he will leave Bologna in a few months. He and Bologna will be at San Siro tomorrow, let’s say it’s a dress rehearsal and maybe a glimpse into Milan’s future.

Everything will depend on the choice of the new coach of course, but the paper writes that Serhou Guirassy and Jonathan David were the targets in January and could be in June too. Above all, David has a contract expiring in 2025 which is very attractive.

There are lesser-known names in Italy like Santiago Gimenez (Feyenoord), Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting Lisbon) and Vangelis Pavlidis (AZ Alkmaar) that the Rossoneri are following closely, and we profiled each in a recent feature.
