GdS: Debut goal and parents’ tears – Simic has an unforgettable Sunday

By Oliver Fisher -

The story of yesterday’s win over Monza was undoubtedly Jan-Carlo Simic after he got his first goal for the club in his Serie A debut, while the trend of opportunities for the Primavera players continued.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) talks about Simic’s goal and the emotions of his parents, who were sat near the corner at San Siro and were pictured in tears after seeing their son score. After the game, Simic stated he would give his first ever Serie A shirt to them.

Milan nowadays are more and more youth-led. They have the sixth-lowest average age in Serie A (26 years and 95 days, source StatsPerform), while Francesco Camarda made his Serie A debut on 25 November at 15 years, 8 months and 15 days, and Davide Bartesaghi came on yesterday too.

Simic woke up yesterday knowing that Pioli would have had Simon Kjaer play from the start but he was ready to be called upon, as happened when Tommaso Pobega suffered his injury. The fairytale moment came when Rafael Leao accelerated into the area and the teenager was on hand to fire the low cross into the roof of the net.

Looking at Rafa, when he sees that Jan-Carlo scored the goal, he changes expression and celebrated much more joyously. In the evening, Rafa dedicated an Instagram thought to him: “Welcome, brother” and so did many teammates, including Thiaw and Devis Vasquez, who left Milan in the summer.

Simic started as a striker and an attacking midfielder, and with his moment for the goal you can tell. He speaks German, Serbian, Italian, English and French, as a child he wanted to be a footballer or a lawyer. Perhaps he chose right.
