GdS: Structure, squad and stadium – Milan’s plans for U23 side becoming clearer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to put plans in place for their U23 team hoping that they can register one as early as next season, and two men above all are at work.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that a spot in Serie C must become available for Milan to formally register their team, but in this respect there are ‘few doubts’ and therefore work continues daily to get everything in place.

If anything, the time has come to accelerate, because in the second half of July it will be necessary to submit all the documentation to register ‘Milan B’ for the 2024-25 Serie C season.

The structure

The project intrigues the club’s leaders, both from the point of view of visibility and because it is considered very functional from a first team perspective. Since the Rossoneri’s U23s will be a team that will have a life of its own, it will have a dedicated organisational structure behind it.

The two main positions have already been assigned: Jovan Kirovski will be the sporting director, the one who will have to form and amalgamate the squad in a mix of boys coming from the Primavera, returnees from loans and some new arrivals.

Kirovski was basically Ibrahimovic’s first real move as a Rossoneri super consultant. He wanted him to come to Italy and did so after getting to know him during his time with LA Galaxy, where he held the position of technical director for eleven years.

Kirovski brought champions to Los Angeles like Ibrahimovic, Steven Gerrard and more, but also talents with a career ahead of them like Puig. In short, he is someone who knows what to do and who Zlatan has bet on him.

The coach

Kirovski is expected to meet Daniele Bonera during the next few days, with him being the second name around which the U23 team will revolve.

The former Rossoneri defender, who in recent years has been a collaborator on Pioli’s staff, playing an ever-increasing role, will be promoted to the bench of the second team.

Upon returning from Australia, where he led the first team in the friendly against Roma, Bonera will have direct contact with Kirovski in order to take stock of things and start planning for the future.

The Primavera will be the main propellant for the U23 squad, although it will also be necessary to understand which talents the incoming head coach Paulo Fonseca wants to keep in the first team squad.

The names are those already known by the fans: Kevin Zeroli, Davide Bartesaghi, Jan-Carlo Simic (if he stays), Alex Jimenez, Diego Sia and Hugo Cuenca. Marco Nasti, Devis Vasquez, Marco Pellegrino, Marko Lazetic and Chaka Traoré will return from loan and could feature

The next meetings between Kirovski and Bonera will help to go into detail on the composition of the squad. What about the venue? Milan U23 will play at the Stadio Solbiate Arno, a stone’s throw from Milanello.
