GdS: Thiaw, Adli, Jovic – the latest on Milan’s potential sale candidates

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will soon welcome Strahinja Pavlovic as their second signing of the summer and then work will continue to fix other gaps in the squad, with the striker issue something to be monitored.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the money to buy Pavlovic is already there and there is no pressure on Milan to make a sale in order to fund that signing, while for other signings they might look to get one out before they add more.

The signal given by Paulo Fonseca to Yacine Adli – who remains as an unused substitute against Manchester City is quite clear, but the Frenchman has not yet given the green light to a potental move to Saudi Arabia.

Instead, watch out for what can happen with Malick Thiaw. In England word spread of an agreement reached between Milan and Newcastle for the German, a story denied by his agent, but the Rossoneri are holding back and continuing to for €40m to sell.

The striker issue deserves a separate chapter, which is not a priority because there are Luka Jovic and Francesco Camarda as options. However, if an offer for the Serbian arrives, Milan could sell for a pure capital gain and go for another centre-forward.

    1. Ignore this article, telling lies, cooking up stories, the only actual possibility here is Adli, he has to evaluate his options quickly, as for Thiaw; the media is trying so hard to sell is value for potential investors like man United to rushing in and spend huge sum since that is their basic routine this transfer window

    2. Because it was win win.
We either use him in the squad or sell him for 100% profit.
To date he had only cost Milan his wages.

I don’t mind the idea of him staying but I think there are legitimate questions around if he is suited to our single striker formation.
Last season he was most successful when we were trailing and switched to 2 striker formations in desperation.

While we have Leao in the squad, it is hard to see that our “plan a” formation will be anything without Wingers and a CF.

      1. That just reeks of some dodgy money laundering….

And I really don’t get the concept that Jovic, of all strikers, can only play in a front 2.

First that’s not really a thing. But second in the case of Jovic he’s a goal poacher.

Jovic was barely on the pitch last season and was mostly a sub so we really have no idea what his level is. You only really know a player’s level if they play regularly.

        1. The few times we did start him as an alternative to Giroud it didn’t go well.

I would like to have seen him get more opportunities to start. But based on what we did see, it wasn’t good.
However when he came off the bench to support Giroud because we we not winning; that’s when he did well.

          1. Nearly every time he started was with heavy rotations leading to a disjointed mess of an attack. Not to mention Giroud had just as many stinkers even with the rest of the starting attackers. There simply isn’t enough of Jovic (or Okafor for that matter) starting with to evaluate how he would be as a lone striker.

          2. A player needs to start 30+ games to reach their level.

Why do people think professional footballers are the only elite athletes who can just rock up and play?

Imagine a tennis player playing 5 minutes here and there.

          3. Agree with all these points.
Ultimately I’d like to see Jovic get another season to see what he can offer.
And how much better he can be used than what Pioli did. Relentlessly relying on a 38 yr old striker to lead the line twice a week.

          We’re not Juve!

It’s not uncommon to extend a player to allow you better price leverage in selling them.

  1. It seems Bennacer is the one that won Fonseca over. Great news. Cannot wait to see him fully back in action after an injury ravaged going to AFCON season.
