With all of the talk over €20m+ deals for the midfield and attack, the signing of Luka Romero on a free transfer is one that might go under the radar for AC Milan.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes how Milan’s third summer signing comes from a place that binds him to Bob Dylan and Fabrizio De André as Romero will arrive after a couple of years at Lazio.
He born in Durango, the Mexican city which was the subject of a Bob Dylan song from the album Desire, and then De André translated it into Italian in the 1970s. The city thus unites the unusual trio.
The ‘mini Messi’ will land in Italy today, and tomorrow he will carry out his medical before signing his contract at Casa Milan. He is the third signing of an important summer for Milan, after Marco Sportiello and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Romero is a left-footed right winger who likes to cut inside and shoot. Last season he only played 276 minutes across 12 games, scoring a decisive goal against Monza. Maurizio Sarri has always spoken well of him, but then used him very little.
In 2020, he became the youngest debutant in LaLiga history, playing at 15 years and 219 days for Real Mallorca. He was contested by three national teams – Mexico, Spain and Argentina – in the end he chose the latter.
It is the country of his parents’ birth and with whom he took the U20 World Cup. Another curiosity: Luka was discovered thanks to a reality TV show in which he stood out among hundreds of young players.
Smart transfer. As I’ve said before, Frankfurt paid €0 for Kolo Muani. His value has just been adjusted to €80m. Imo, we should buy 3 players per position we want to strengthen, with the expectation that 1 will fail, 1 will reach Serie A-level and 1 will reach international level.
