GdS: Why Allegri’s request to sign Kean is more feasible for Milan now

Moise Kean has been at the top of Massimiliano Allegri’s wish list for quite some time and as highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport, the deal is much more feasible for AC Milan now.

This season, Milan have had the best defence in Serie A, focusing a lot on the solidity of the team under Allegri’s management. However, in order to take the next step, they need to become a lot better on the other side of the pitch.

The attack has been composed of several duos this season, each with different interpretations. Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic have scored the most goals, at nine and eight respectively, but Milan need someone who can consistently hit double figures.

Kean tops the list

As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo at the bottom), Fiorentina’s Kean tops the wish list at Milan. Leao and Pulisic will definitely stay for next season, given just how important they are, but uncertainty surrounds the other forwards.

The buy-out option for Niclas Fullkrug is set at just €5m, though he needs to score more for it to be triggered, and both Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez are on the fence. As such, a reinforcement is indeed planned.

Allegri wants someone who can attack the depth with depth, while also ensuring that there is strength in the penalty box and in the initial duels: an identikit that Kean fits in many ways. Not to mention that he’s Italian, which helps with the squad lists.

This season has been a bit disappointing for the striker, with just eight goals in 24 appearances, so the €62m release clause (active for the first 15 days of July) definitely won’t be triggered. Subsequrntly, Milan will also be able to obtain a discount on the price tag.

Kean and Allegri shared three seasons together at Juventus, with 102 appearances and 14 goals. The numbers show that Moise was highly regarded, even if Allegri’s faith wasn’t repaid with a high number of goals.

His experience at Fiorentina, with a guaranteed starting spot and constantly renewed faith, has transformed him into a different player who’s a starter in Gennaro Gattuso’s Italy. He earns €4.5m per year, which is a high figure for La Viola, and shows his importance at the club.

If not for the relationship with Allegri, the friendship with Leao could perhaps push Kean to advocate for a Milan move in the summer…

A couple of alternatives

If an agreement cannot be reached with Fiorentina for Kean, then Milan have two alternatives in mind: Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund and Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus. The former has 17 goals this season, while the latter has just six.

The situation has calmed down between Vlahovic and Juventus, as a renewal is now seemingly on the cards, but Milan are ready step in if things were to go south again. Of course, Allegri would also play an important role here, given his relationship with the player.

  1. If our four strikers this season were Leao, Pulisic, Jovic and Abraham, then right now we’d have more spending money and more goals – jus’ sayin’.

I like Kean. I have a soft spot for Fio but I hope they go down and are forced to have a flash sale.

  2. Not a fan of Kean, his finishing isn’t it at all, but if Alegri request for him, we’ll okay. We shouldn’t pay more than 30mill.

  3. Nkunku annual cost is 16 million. Thats huge…. Gimenez also very expensive 12 million.
Gimenez is still young. And he needs someone to upgrade his technique skill. Nkunku have only 2 more years u till his ability to raise skills fel down.
Milan probably expect to sell them easily or i dont see how someone else 40+ million is arriving. And Nkunku will not be easily to be sold for 30 million at least.

    1. In other words Gimenez i would definitely kept. Nkunku if cant be sold, loan out for 1 year. And than bring one quality central forward.

  4. I like Kean. Hes lone striker. Can work alone in front of goal, he just need great passer from the midfielders, just what allegri needed. He’s more feasible than vlahovic with his high wage. If Milan sell between nkunku / gimenez, i thinks Milan must all out for Kean.

  5. All depends on what Max is trying to do next season. 352 or 433? We already have wide players, not sure what box Kean fills. For a 3 man front, Kean does what exactly? a 9? There’s better options.

    1. He’s a pretty classic mobile 9. He’s not a winger or an attacking midfielder. Just because a dude isn’t huge and white doesn’t mean he’s not an effective striker. Kean is in the 97th percentile across Europe non penalty xg. It’s obvious his finishing needs to get better but honestly that is the only weakness in his game as a striker. He’s not a build up player (not an 10) and he’s definitely not a winger. Sure there are better 9s but he is definitely a nine. He’s actually preformed better in a three man front as the lone striker.
You even suggesting he’s a wide player and that he’s not fit for a three man attack when every statistic says the opposite shows how you don’t understand football and just make assumptions based on on how a player looks.
The only thing you’re right about is “there are better players out there” but that’s true of every player not named Haaland. Seriously there’s better midfielders than Modric right now, there’s better players than Tomori, Bart and Gabbia right now does that mean they aren’t fit for Milan?
Maybe watch more football if you gonna try and act like you know something 🤨

  6. I still think Vlahovic is the answer for Milan he can win those games where Milan have to attack the low block. Kean would be an excellent addition but he’s more similar to what Milan already have. In a magical world if Milan could land both, Allegri would have two strikers who are two unique profiles creating interesting lineups options and strategic flexibility.

  7. I like Kean and he’s the one target I’m fully on board with. He’s a great presser, quick, never stops running and has a strong shot too. But I have to keep emphasising the need to switch to a 433 or 4231.

In Allegri-logic a lot of the best teams played with four “forwards” midweek. Bayern, Arsenal, Atletico, City. I’m not saying you have to do that every game but this is how you win in Europe these days.

You need to have the balls to play Nkunku behind Kean with Rafa and Pulisic out wide sometimes. Of course I’d settle for a 433 too as long as we play with a bit of intensity. Because with the current 532 it’s like watching a different sport in the CL.
