GdS: Why Milan’s €12m deal for Leicester striker broke down on deadline day

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan had everything agreed with Leicester City over Patson Daka but the deadline day deal ended up falling apart due to one key reason, a report claims.

Milan’s move for Mehdi Taremi of Porto fell apart on the penultimate date of the window and thus they had to launch a late move for another striker, with Daka seemingly the chosen one.

Sky were among the sources to report on the final day of the window that Milan had reached an agreement with Leicester over the figures and formula of the operation with Daka over personal terms.

However, rumours of difficulties came out and Milan decided to turn to Rafa Mir of Sevilla and then eventually Luka Jovic, who was officially announced in the final hour of the window on a free transfer.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MN24), Daka would have arrived on a paid loan with a €12m option to buy as that was the deal agreed between the clubs.

However, the non-EU status of the Zambia international complicated things because there was not enough time left before the window closed to get his visa and work permit sorted.
