GdS: Why Pellegrino was called up by Argentina despite zero minutes with Milan

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan signed Marco Pellegrino from Platense in the summer and the youngster is yet to make an appearance for the club. In spite of this, he was called up by Argentina for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

As a result of Matteo Gabbia’s loan move to Villarreal, Milan went looking for a centre-back on the market and eventually signed the talented Pellegrino from Platense. The transfer fee was around €3-5m, which has been described as a bargain.

The 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Rossoneri, but there’s a good reason for his Argentina call-up. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Argentina want to lock him down as he’s also eligible to play for Italy.

Then, of course, Pellegrino also impressed during his time at Platense and the national team staff have been keeping tabs on him for a long time. It remains to be seen when he will make his first appearance for Milan, but it’s probably not far away.

  1. Pioli : “his moment will come, against some random serie C team in the first turn of the coppa italia, then probably in the coppa italia second turn in the final minutes. He can play in some friendly matches, too and also we might need him if tomori, Kalulu, Thiaw, Calabria and Krunic are all out”
Also Pioli : ” he is a foreigner, he needs to get used to italian football, it will take 2 or 3 years.”
Reporter: “but he just won the world cup with Argentina!”
Pioli : ” italian football is different, even ronaldo and messi woudl need time to adjust here, 2 or 3 years”
Pioli: “moreover he is still young and needs time to adjust to first team pro football. He will get his chances in 4 or 5 years”

    1. LOL. But honestly, who would you sit? Tomori is in top form and Thiaw is doing well as well. Excluding the result against Inter, our defense has been excellent, including two clean sheets in the Champions League’s “group of death”. Don’t fix something that ain’t broke man.

      1. How insecure could you possibly be…he doesn’t have to play in the group of death or important games like Juve or inter…but games like Cagliari, Verona??? How do people expect young blood to earn experience when they are not given any chance against teams that don’t pose huge danger? He may be talented but seems to me we’ll never find out because pioli is too insecure to try him out against a team at the bottom of the table, he’ll just play the starting CB’s over and over and over and over until they get injured or seriously fatigued then he’ll get his chance, I mean that’s how adli got his chance…and turns out adli’s performance this season was better than CDKs performance last year or Brahim Diaz as well, who would’ve thought, look happened with krunic, and Loftus cheek and Theo Hernandez, Milan has a big squad, but they have a coach who is afraid of rotation…years from now he’ll sit in an interview and a reporter is going to ask if Pellegrino will get his chance, and he’ll say “No, he doesn’t have enough experience for a tough game like this” and most of you are going to agree with him… so insecure

    2. Lol
He should be blooded soon. Can’t see any reason to not give him the minutes now from the bench. Rather him coming on fresh and determined than Kjaer who is showing his age now..

    3. Okay so you want Pioli to bench Tomori, Thiaw, or Kjaer and play the unexperiences Pelegrino against PSG, Juve, and Napoli just because he got called up to FRIENDLY matches lmao.

Good lord. I’m just glad it was Pioli who managed Milan and not some internet smartass who thinks they know anything about football from playing video games.

      1. I also want Pellegrini to play.

If you have nothing better to comment rather than, “lmao”, “good lord”, “smartass” & making connection with video games — it is better not to comment at all.

        1. You have reading problems kid. Pretty sure i wrote more than ‘lmao’, ‘good lord’, ‘smartass’, and the video games.

Next time don’t bother to reply my comment because i hate wasting my time for idiots who have reading problems.

          1. Such jargon is only being used by degenerates such as yourself.

If you don’t have anything constructive to write, stop touching your bloody keyboard.

    4. Let me correct you a little bit. His time will come, but it will not be because Pioli wants it. It’ll come if either 3 out of Tomori, Thiaw, Kjaer and Kalulu are injured.
I like Pioli but let’s not kid ourselves. Thiaw only started because everyone else was injured. Same with Kalulu

    5. How can he won world cup when it’s his first call up to NT 🤦‍♂️

Just because Argentina won world cup doesn’t mean all the players with Argentina Nationality won it lol

  2. It makes me chuckle too, about how stupid you are.
He won the World Cup, and yet has never played a game for Argentina. Who exactly should he play in place of? Sure let’s put the new kid out there in the center of defense in a game that matters instead of those whose qualities we know, that’s a great F’ing idea. Moron.
