GdS: Probable XIs for Milan vs. Inter – Brahim Diaz and Messias to the bench

By Oliver Fisher -

After dropping points to struggling Salernitana and Udinese in back-to-back league games, AC Milan will turn their attentions to the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against rivals Inter.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport takes a look at the two probable XIs for the game, and the defence should stay the same as Mike Maignan should have Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori, Alessio Romagnoli and Theo Hernandez ahead of him as the back four.

Sandro Tonali’s suspension means the double pivot of Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie virtually picks itself, while Junior Messias is expected to take a seat on the bench in place of Alexis Saelemaekers on the right wing, with Rafael Leao on the left.

The big news is that Brahim Diaz should drop to the bench and Rade Krunic is tipped to be the playmaker, with Olivier Giroud the centre-forward as Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to battle injury.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Krunic, Leao; Giroud.

Probable Inter XI (3-5-2): Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic; Martinez, Dzeko.

  1. That starting XI does not instill confidence… Yet, i hope that bringing in Messias and Brahim after the 1st half will have the same result as last time.

  2. Saelemaekers is a waste of space – I would play Leao on the right, Rebic on the left and Kessie as No10 – and we need to get Lazetic on the bench and give him gametime too (assuming he is now fit) – Pioli sooner or later is going to get a spanking and I don’t want to be against Inter..
