GdS: Zaniolo wants Serie A return with Milan top of his priorities

By Oliver Fisher -

Nicolo Zaniolo is hoping to return to Italy at the end of the season and he has a move to AC Milan at the top of his list of preferences, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) report this morning, escape to Istanbul allowed Nicolò Zaniolo to rediscover a serenity that was irretrievably lost in Rome after his fall-out with the Giallorossi.

At Galatasaray, the winger striker found some consistency and has contributed to the successes of the Turkish club as they are heading for the title, but at the moment Zanuolo ‘cannot wait to go home’.

Zaniolo has a €30m release clause built into his deal but the hypothesis of a loan is not excluded by his entourage, which allows potentially interested clubs to overcome the economic difficulty of bringing him back to Serie A.

At this stage more enquiries have received than expressions of concrete interest, while the 23-year-old would be happy to join either Milan or Juventus.

It is the Rossoneri are looking to refresh their attack considering that Junior Messias could leave. Stefano Pioli needs to find players with more quality and personality in that area of the pitch, so Zaniolo could be the man.

  1. If he had stayed a few additional months in Rome, he would not have had this €30 mio clause attached to him, and with 1 year’s contract left he would have left AS Roma for half the price requested now.

He shot himself in the foot and made his transfer back to Italy (or anywhere else) much more complex and expensive than it could have been.

Finally, I’m not sure to understand why Galatasaray would let him leave on loan after a few months.

    1. Are you blaming him for leaving? You should blame the management who refused to pay an extra 3mil to get him..

      1. He was apparently desperate to leave and it led him to accept clauses in his contract which will make his come back (if any) to Italy (or anywhere else) unlikely. His trip to Istanbul could very well be a one way ticket.

That being said, you’re right in saying our management refused to pay €25 mio for this player whilst the bar is now set to €30 mio

      2. I was a supporter of his move, and still am actually. We didn’t have any money last winter (this is where the question of Redbird seriousness and motivation began), that’s why we can only offer Roma loan with option to buy. Roma only wants permanent move or loan with obligation to buy.

That being said, 30 mil seems too high. If we can get him for 20-25, it’d be a much simpler decision. And remember that he’s still 23.

  2. No thank you. Often injured. Doesn’t pass. Dribbles too much. Thinks he is much better than he actually is, always trying to pull off moves he is not capable of. Not worth the money. We are in more urgent need of a starting midfielder and a striker.
