German journalist reveals Dortmund’s weak point ahead of Milan clash

By Euan Burns -

German journalist Yannik Huber has revealed that Borussia Dortmund’s weakest point in the squad is their defence, which could play into Milan’s hands tonight.

Huber covers Dortmund for German sport magazine Bild and he is well-placed to predict what may go down at San Siro and he spoke toMilan News.

First talking about the negative side for Milan, Huber said: “In my opinion, it won’t be easy at all for Milan. Dortmund are fourth in the league, just ten points from the top.”

He did then explain some of the internal issues that Dortmund have to deal with right now, from the coaching upwards.

There is no internal stability. There is, in fact, a clash, almost a tug of war, between coach Terzic and Kehl, the club’s manager. It’s a sort of internal war, which however has repercussions on the team and the progress of the season,” Huber explained.

Milan and Dortmund played out a tight 0-0 draw when they met earlier in the Champions League group stage, and Huber was asked how the German side has changed since then.

“Very very much. It won’t be the same match as the first leg. Above all, Terzic personally has great motivations: if he were to go through a tough group, after beating a battleship like Newcastle twice, he would come out as the winner in the internal dualism with Kehl, who would like to send him away,” he said.

There are a number of talented attacking player at Dortmund, as has been the case down the years. Huber explained which players Milan need to be aware of: “Definitely Füllkrug: he has scored three goals in the last three games. He is in great shape. Then how can we not mention the three-man midfield, made up of Reus, Brandt and Malen? There is all the technical quality of Dortmund there. Also, watch out for Bynoe-Gittens: for a few weeks now, he has been portrayed as the revelation of the Bundesliga.”

Finally, he revealed that the defence is where Dortmund are lacking: “Dortmund’s real weak point is the defence. 19 goals conceded in 12 games overall are too many. Furthermore, it is not a team that, mentally, is solid and constant. Very often to wake up, they have to concede a goal. But, sometimes, it can be fatal. Especially against a top-level team like Milan.”

  1. And Milan has a very weak offensive department. So that evens out. But Dortmund’s midfield will crush ours and take control of the game so it’ll be up to MM16 to save the day. Again.

    1. Usually they show the youth matches in tv in denmark in the afternoon if they show the adult matches in the evening but as milans match isn’t on the same channel today i can’t see the youth match but can see they are leading 4-1 and scotti again has a great match scoring twice,
Anywhere i can easily watch it without any subscription ?

  2. Ideally we would need Leao running at their defence all game long, but it will have to be Pulisic, whom they know well and presumably have a solution for. So the only question mark here is what could Chuk do….. Nobody knows. Not even Pioli.
