Germany boss Flick ‘satisfied’ Thiaw is getting ‘important minutes at Milan’

By Oliver Fisher -

Germany head coach Hans-Dieter Flick has admitted to being happy with the amount of growth Malick Thiaw has shown in recent months at AC Milan.

Thiaw joined Milan from Schalke in the 2022 summer transfer window and his first season at the club can pretty much be split in half. Up until the World Cup break he could not break into the side, with Stefano Pioli preferring other options instead.

However, he was thrust into the fold during the crisis of January as part of a three-man defence and he very quickly showed his quality but above all his character at the age of 21, putting in some great performances including one against Harry Kane in the Champions League.

He is now part of the senior Germany squad too having captained the U21s, and in view of tomorrow evening’s friendly match against Japan their head coach Hans-Dieter Flick spoke about his growth.

“We are satisfied with the growth of Malick Thiaw, he is also getting many important minutes at Milan. He has already settled in very well with us, but tomorrow Niklas Süle will start,” he said via MilanNews).
