Gila’s agent denies Milan move is close: “I haven’t spoken to any Serie A team”

Mario Gila’s agent has seemingly denied any notion that there is an agreement in place with AC Milan, or that talks are advanced.

Gila is set to be among the most talked-about defenders in the upcoming summer transfer window. His contract expires in 2027 and there seems to be no chance of a renewal with Lazio, meaning this would be the last summer to cash in.

Milan and Inter have been the teams most concretely linked in Serie A. In fact, Calciomercato.com even spoke of the Rossoneri being one step away from signing the Spaniard, with personal terms having already been verbally agreed.

Gila’s agent Alejandro Camano – the same one who represents Inter captain Lautaro Martinez – has spoken to Radio Crc about what the future might hold for his client. His words were relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“Mario Gila is a Lazio player and will be until the end of the season. He still has one year left on his contract with the Biancocelesti. This is a very important moment in the season for Lazio, there’s a chance of winning the Coppa Italia, and Mario’s only focus is on them,” he said.

“I haven’t spoken to any Serie A team about Mario Gila’s future. If an offer from any Serie A club were to come in, he would have to speak directly with Lazio and then with us.

“Mario Gila is one of the best center backs in Italy. He signed a five-year contract with Lazio, and this is his fourth year. Lazio gave one of my players the opportunity to play in a very important league like the Italian one.

“We want to honour our contract with them and respect any previous agreements we made. We’re happy and confident about this. Renewal? We’ve never discussed this. We’re relaxed, as is Mario himself.”

The report goes on to claim that Milan and Gila have reached a preliminary agreement regarding the length and salary of a potential contract, while negotiations between the Rossoneri and Lazio have yet to begin. The Milan management’s intention is to limit the fee to €25m.

  1. If they sign a CB now it’ll completely mess with the system they’ve finally landed on after (what)?

When was the last time AC Milan had an established CB partnership?

You’d probably need to go back to Nesta and Thiago Silva.

Tomori and Kalulu could’ve been a long term solution but distraction set in.

Bonucci and Chiellini played over 300 games together.

Tomori has played over 140 games for Milan (which makes him the least popular here) in multiple different CB partnerships.

Gabbia, the youth player (therefore one of the most hated players on here), has played over 100 games across three stints in what until this season was mostly an accident of injuries and desperation.

Pavlovic has played the fewest (which makes him the most popular on here) with over 50 appearances.

It was not until this season all three played together with anything approaching regularity.

Gabbia for injured which interrupted the run.

De Winter stepped in and crucially this gave the team its Cáceres option.

Another CB would undo all of the work of this year.

They don’t need “depth”. CBs don’t need to be rotated as much (if at all) and they’ve got Bartesaghi who can drop back and maintain familiarity.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN A CB.
