Santiago Gimenez joined AC Milan in one of the best moments of his career. So far, his spell at San Siro may be the opposite, even if it is not emotionally.
There has been no shying away from the topic by Gimenez; he is a Milan fan and he wants to achieve great things in the red and black stripes. This morning, he even admitted that he wants to become the club’s top scorer; lofty ambitions, indeed.
Despite this, it is impossible to view his time at San Siro too positively so far. Whether it be poor form or his ankle injury, the Mexican has struggled to find the same form that brought him to Italy. This has not put him down, though.
Gimenez’s admission
In fact, he is keen to get back to being that player, even if changes have happened. Speaking to MilanTV, he opened up about his struggles and the change since, as Calciomercato.com relays.
“I feel like a new person, a renewed person, and I feel a responsibility to give the fans what they expect from me.
“I started out very well at Milan, scoring several goals, but then, for some reason, my performances dropped. Playing with a sore ankle didn’t help. Last season was negative, there’s no point in hiding it. Then, in the summer, Allegri arrived, along with new players, and we’re doing well.
“But then came the ankle operation, and that’s also why I feel obligated to give my all for our fans. I’m not the same Santi I was when I arrived; I’m much hungrier and I feel better. It’s been really hard for me, and I intend to repay everything on the pitch.
“Sometimes I joke with the coaching staff and tell them, ‘When I was there, we won four in a row.’ We’re having a great season, and the remaining matches are like finals for us, especially the one against Napoli, a team where the best player in history, Maradona, played.
“Milan is a club that belongs in the Champions League, and we absolutely must get back there.”

A goal or 2 against Napoli may help turn things around.
