Giornale: Milan targeting Red Bull Salzburg midfielder while De Ketelaere rejects PSV

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were linked with a move for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath yesterday, and now another source has confirmed the interest.

According to Il Giornale (via MilanNews), the Rossoneri management are working to secure the signing of a midfielder that would complete the department after the sale of Sandro Tonali.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders have already arrived, while Yunus Musah of Valencia remains a target, but Gourna-Douath of Salzburg is on the list too.

The 19-year-old made 65 appearances for AS Saint-Etienne where he came through the academy of before moving to Salzburg, making 33 appearances last season playing almost exclusively as a defensive midfielder.

As for the outgoing business that Milan are looking to do, PSV Eindhoven have set their sights on Charles De Ketelaere having lost Xavi Simons to PSG, but he has said no to the idea of moving to the Netherlands as per the newspaper.

  1. Could be a worthy signing. He has a fair bit of first team experience for a 19 year old. And I think Salzburg has been more reasonable than Valencia’s Peter Lim.

  2. Douth seems to be a fairly tall, physical, defensive-minded player and aware positionally. If he can stay motivated and focused, he’ll probably play with Pioli quite a few games.

We need these types of players in the last 20 min of a game we’re leading to sub one of the starters, especially if we move to a 4-3-3.

Considering he’s U21, he checks all the boxes. Not sure how much Salzburg would ask for him considering that they bought him a year ago for 13-15 million and he’s become more expensive since then
