CM: Giroud keeps up trend of scoring big goals – the details of his imminent Milan renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer last night as he netted against Poland, continuing what has so far been a fantastic 2022.

A left footed shot after a feed from Mbappé beat Szczesny for Giroud to score his 52nd goal with the French national team, more than anyone else in history. More than Thierry Henry, second at 51 and now definitively surpassed.

Calciomercato.com writes that Giroud has seized the opportunity that Karim Benzema’s injury presented to him, and now he has England in his sights ahead of Saturday’s quarter-final, and in the meantime the Milan management are happy with their decision to sign him from Chelsea.

In fact, a renewal is ready for the 36-year-old as he will extend his deal until June 2024 with the same salary of around €3.5m net per season. The challenge then is to close the gap to Napoli and go as far as possible in the Champions League League against a Spurs side he knows well.
