Giroud ahead of Chelsea clash: “To play at Stamford Bridge with Milan is great”

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud has said that it will be ‘great’ to play at Stamford Bridge against his former side Chelsea.

The French striker was speaking during an interview with French TV channel Telefoot (via Milan News) when he was asked about the fact that Milan and Chelsea have been drawn in the same group in the UEFA Champions League.

He was not slow to hide his excitement about facing some of his old teammates as a Milan player when the Rossoneri travel to London on October 5.

“I hope for a warm welcome from Chelsea in London. I left the Blues on good terms, like all my other clubs. To come back and play with Milan at Stamford Bridge is great. I think it will be a good moment,” he said.

The other two teams in the group are Austrian champions RB Salzburg who Milan will be playing on Tuesday evening, and Dinamo Zagreb who are entertaining Chelsea on Tuesday.

Giroud joined Chelsea in 2018 after a long spell at Arsenal. He played 75 times for the Blues and scored 17 times. He then moved to Milan in 2021 and has become an extremely important component in Stefano Pioli’s side.

  1. Well indeed, Giroud is one of a kind. He extended his contract with Chelsea before joining Milan, so Milan has to pay a small transfer fee and Chelsea was not losing player for free. What a good relationship, hopefully our player who wants to find a new challenge outside Milan will do the same thing as Giroud did.
