Giroud discusses ‘difficult’ Monza clash and refuses to predict Milan future

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Monza, Olivier Giroud spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the task at hand. Although he will not play from start, the Frenchman still feels great responsibility.

Milan are looking to add another three points to their tally and leapfrog Juventus in the standings, reclaiming second place after losing it back in October. However, although they are clear favourites, a good game will be needed against Monza.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Giroud shared his thoughts on the game and what Milan will need to do to win. As said, Luka Jovic will be the starting striker tonight but the Frenchman still feels great responsibility, always aiming to lead his teammates.

On the game…

“We know it will be difficult against Monza, it’s a team we know well and it won’t be easy in their stadium, but we are Milan and we want to continue to do well in Serie A as we have shown so far.”

On the defensive phase…

“We are working well and even in the defensive phase we are not conceding goals, or in any case, we are conceding few, this evening we want to get another clean sheet like in the Europa League.”

On the standings…

“Inter are doing well, Juve didn’t win but we can only think of ourselves, as we always do. Inter are doing great things, but that’s fine, we’re interested in our path, looking at the others is of no use, we are a cohesive, united group that wants to win tonight. I always try to help my teammates on and off the pitch.”

On Thursday you reached 700 club match appearances. How many games do you still feel like wearing the Milan shirt?

“I didn’t know, it’s a good number. I’m very proud of this. I feel good even if sometimes it’s good to rest like tonight, but I’m ready to come in if the coach needs me. I don’t like to set goals that are too far away, so I aim to finish this season in the best possible way, win something and do the best in the season.”

Stefano Pioli has made six changes to the starting XI, with Samuel Chukwueze being the unexpected starter, and it will be very interesting to see some of these players tonight.
