CorSera: Giroud Milan’s talisman again as Pioli’s bold calls pay off in huge Napoli win

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud is the man of the moment again for AC Milan as he came up big during last night’s 1-0 win over Napoli, scoring the decisive goal early in the second half.

After the brace in the derby against Inter a few weeks ago, Giroud made sure that the three points would be coming back north as he seized his moment following a tough battle with Koulibaly that left him with a deep cut just above his angle.

This morning’s edition of il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) talks about an absolutely deserved win for the Rossoneri at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as Stefano Pioli beat Luciano Spalletti for the first time in his career.

He got everything right in truth, including the bold decision to field Franck Kessie as an attacking midfielder on paper, and then to actually use it as more of a midfield three. The Rossoneri played a very organised game in which they gave away very little as Mike Maignan made only one save: a stop in the 90th minute over Osimhen.

Milan are still great in the direct head to head clashes with rivals around them, but now the target is not to lose any more points against the lower-ranking sides. The three points give enthusiasm and confidence, as does Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return. All in all, a fantastic night.
