GdS: Giroud gearing up for the new year – more ambitious targets and a renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud may be 36 years old but he is experiencing a second youth of sorts and AC Milan want to keep going on the journey together with him, a report claims.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Giroud will be in Milan – along with his compatriot Theo Hernandez – from 30 December. For this reason, it is very unlikely that the Rossoneri No.9 will be able to start from the first minute against Salernitana on 4 January and it is more likely he comes off the bench.

Every player will have to be managed carefully because the month of January will be very intense for Stefano Pioli’s team. The outcome of the World Cup will be judged as negative overall as France got to the final and lost, but Giroud scored four goals and now cannot wait to get back to work with Milan.

In the month of January, Giroud will also meet with his agent Manuello who will discuss an agreement with Maldini and Massara over the renewal of his contract. The expiry of the existing agreement is set for next summer but there is no panic because the Rossoneri are more than happy with his contribution and the player has been regenerated since his arrival.

Milan will offer him a new deal worth €3.5m net for an extra season but it is possible that the player’s request might be a little higher, especially after last year’s performance. As always, bonuses could be key.
