CorSport: Giroud sets sights on more derby joy before renewal next week

By Oliver Fisher -

Olivier Giroud has scored in the last two league derbies between AC Milan and Inter and he is hoping to extend that streak on Sunday.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Giroud in view of the game against Inter on Sunday evening, one of his favourite victims. Against the Nerazzurri the Frenchman has played five games, obtaining two victories, with two defeats and a draw, scoring three goals.

Thanks to the brace scored in last year’s derby, Giroud entered the hearts of Milan supporters because it ended up being a turning point in the Scudetto race. He broke a scoring drought that had been ongoing since November in Sunday’s game against Sassuolo, and wants to be a thorn in Inter’s side again.

Meanwhile, Giroud is also ready to extend his contract with Milan for another year as next week he will put pen to paper on a deal until June 2024. In January he rejected a big offer from Everton which arrived on the last day of market as they put forward an 18-month deal at €8m net per season, but he wants to remain at Milan and will get his wish.
