Report and highlights as AC Milan Primavera clinch 3-1 win in season opener

AC Milan’s Primavera side prevailed in their season opener as they scored three goals against Monza. Diego Sia was the big hero with a brace, leading Ignazio Abate’s men to the win.

The game was slightly delayed by heavy rain but fortunately, the weather cleared and didn’t interfere much with the clash in the end. 19 minutes into the game, Hugo Cuenca decided to cut inside and found Alessandro Bonomi, who slotted it in at the back post.

However, against the run of play, Monza equalised shortly thereafter through a free-kick. The scores were thus level heading into the interval, with Abate most likely telling his men to continue like in the first half as they played well.

Sure enough, thanks to a mistake at the back just seconds into the second half, Sia ended up in a 1v1 with the goalkeeper and calmly slotted it home. After such a dominant first 45 minutes, they almost deserved that gift.

Just four minutes later, the youngster bagged his brace after a rather unorthodox assist from Kevin Zeroli. Abate then decided to give Francesco Camarda and Alex Jimenez their official debuts for the Primavera. Both are very highly rated, especially Camarda who has come through the youth ranks at Milan.

The game ended 3-1 and Abate’s men thus started the season in the best way possible. They struggled in the league last season but did well in the UEFA Youth League, hoping to do well in both competitions this campaign.
