Romano: Hojlund ‘still hoping’ for Man Utd breakthrough – what Milan are wishing for

This weekend, AC Milan could have their pursuit of a striker made or broken. It relies on Ruben Amorim and Manchester United, though.

A deal where you are waiting is never good. However, when the odds are in your favour, it can be worth it. With Dusan Vlahovic, Milan would have to wait until later this month and then hope that other dominoes fell.

For Hojlund, it is not as difficult. In fact, it can be solved this weekend, it seems. The Dane is not 100% sure of a move to Italy yet, and still wants to prove himself at Old Trafford. Though he could have his mind made up for him.

Weekend calling

Today, Fabrizio Romano, via Garante_Il on X, gave an update on things and how the situation could change soon.

“Calm down, before you say that Højlund would arrive in Milan on Thursday/Friday… that was never the case. We always had to wait for the final stages of this operation, which would always have been postponed until next week, and that remains the case.

“AC Milan knew it was practically impossible to close the Højlund deal this week. This wasn’t the week to close it, and above all, AC Milan still has to close the deal from all angles: with United and the player.

“Højlund still hopes to get a chance against Manchester United this weekend. If Amorim decides to play him for 0 minutes, as against Fiorentina, it’s clear his exit from Manchester United would be a complete downhill battle.”

It is never nice for things to be out of your control. With this, though, another case of being overlooked could trigger a feeling of revenge in the striker. This weekend could say everything.

  1. He would rather get 15 minutes at united than play for milan is what im seeing. We get it thats your boyhood club but you dont you have a career bro???i dont buy this in the end its probably about salary.

    1. Most suited striker for what Tare described at the begining of the transfer market. If we sell Musah, Okafor, Chuku( premier league teams hopefully) and Benny and Adli for pennies I guess we could dream for 50mil Kean. I thought his clause was 52 mil in the first 2 weeks of July, if that is true probably Kean would cost at least 60mil

  2. The guy clearly doesn’t want to play for Milan. Find someone who wants to wear the shirt, for heaven’s sake!

  3. Playing hard to get when in actual sense it’s difficult to choose you … If I had my way he would have never been a target . God knows if he does come in, he won’t be playing to his strength and if it ever came down to making a choice of staying with us or going back we all know where his head would be at …

    1. Well said mate. Beginning to feel the same way about this whole drama. He shouldn’t expect the love of the fans with this attitude, if he eventually joins Milan. Milan management should decide their next move, if he doesn’t give the nod this weekend.

  4. Why is everyone bashing Hojland? Let’s see, Milan finished 8th. No CL, No Euro fottball period. Seemingly a fair amount of mismanagement at the club, a revolving door of mediocre coaches, At best, 2 WC players in Modric (for 20mins) and Leao. And an entirely new squad. Kinda sounds like….Man Utd!

  5. His stats don’t justify the drama. At United, he’s got 0.22 goals per match in the Premier League (14 goals in 62 games) and 298 minutes per goal—hardly elite for a £64m striker. At 22, his inconsistency is glaring, yet Milan chases him despite his initial reluctance. Why tolerate this attitude from a young lad who’s yet to prove his worth? The numbers don’t lie—Højlund’s not worth the fuss.

  6. I wouldn’t rate him based off his time at Utd. Utd. has become a team where WC players become average. Terrible, terrible coaching, terrible tactics, illogical team selection all with a squad that, on paper is very strong. Not to mention the disfunction in the management. Antony and Rashford for e.g. have done much better after leaving Utd. The only drama being generated is by the media and thankfully calmer heads are handling this deal.
