Sky: €85m Man Utd outcast now ‘in pole position’ to become Milan’s new striker

Rasmus Hojlund has overtaken Dusan Vlahovic to become the main striker target for AC Milan, according to Sky.

It is well known that Milan are in the market for a new centre-forward, and the name that has never left the frame is Vlahovic. The Serbian has been told he can leave Juventus, and patience could see him land at Milan even if the economic meeting point is not close currently.

Thus, other names have been mentioned as clubs begin to get more desperate offloading players they don’t want and agents get to work too. Enter Rasmus Hojlund…

Rasmus now in pole

Peppe Di Stefano spoke live on Sky yesterday evening and gave a brief update on Milan’s pursuit of a new No.9, and he confirmed that the Manchester United man is a target.

“Hojlund could be the solution for the attack. Young and strong. If Sesko were to arrive at United, a loan solution could be considered. We are not ruling out Vlahovic’s name, but at the moment Hojlund is in pole position,” he said (via MilanNews).

A report on Sky‘s website also confirms that the Red Devils could sanction a loan operation if they get Sesko. Hojlund though cost them €75m plus €10m bonuses, and has 26 goals in 95 appearances, after scoring 10 goals in 34 games for Atalanta as a teenager.

  1. It could be a good gamble. He did well at Atalanta and nobody plays well at ManU circus. He’s young, knows serie A and most importantly, offers a different profile to Santi. For the right price, he’s a solid gamble.

    1. Yes, but what’s the right price? They paid 75M for him. He makes 5M per year. Even after two seasons of amortization (including a loan to us this season), their break even will be well north of 60M. Even if United were willing to accept a small loss, do you see us paying 55-60M for Hojlund in 2026? I guess we could rent him for a season, but I’d really like us to solve the striker carousel that has been basically going on since Inzaghi retired.

      1. That is not how the amortization works. He was purchase for €75M on a 5-year contract. So the value of amortization is spread to €15M per year. Since he has already been there for two years (going on his 3rd), MUFC would only need to recover €45M this year to not take him at a loss. AC Milan could offer a year loan with a €30-35 option/obligation and MUFC should be happy since he’d clear their books at zero or a slight profit.

It would not be a bad investment rather than Vhalovic with escalated wages.

        1. If 75M was just the transfer fee, then I think you have to include wages in the amortization calculation too.

          1. Wages don’t count, because you don’t count money that hasn’t been spent.
Wages are tagged on separately as annual expenses, not amortized values.

            So, no, wages don’t count.

          2. Thanks Ryan, after some quick searching you are correct. It is just the transfer fee over the course of the contract term independent of the wages.

      2. Vero you’re always calling Furlani dumb but don’t seem to grasp the most basic aspect of FFP and transfers 😂😂

      3. Nope loan with option to buy 35m euro already enough . If you loan him this season then his value contract only 35m euro next year. Low risk high reward for ACM , if he flop just return him to MU

  2. In all honesty, I think that with our new midfield any decent striker could score. Loan with option to buy is a painless gamble which could pay off tenfold in the near future.

  3. What people who are commenting here that this would not solve the long term striker problem, you are forgetting that if this kid helps this season, the end of his loan (with no obligation to buy) would coincide with the end of Camarda’s year at Lecce, by which point Camarda might be fully developed and ready to join MIlan’s first team in permanent bases, making keeping Hojlund unnecessary. So I welcome the idea of having this kid for one year to provide relief for Santi.

  4. Italian style formula: loan + option to buy. He’s not Milan main striker , I think it used only to give some competition for gimenez. Vlahovic ? Too expensive + too much drama. He will end up like Nunez. Go to Saudi Arabia with his 20m salary / year….

  5. I Think the Giroud profile idea has dissipated. Vhalovic isn’t even that style and let’s face it, Giroud is a rare talent. It’s clear that there is more than one cook in the kitchen when it comes to the transfer window and it seems Furlani has told them Vhalovic isn’t happening (which I think is a good thing). I don’t think there’s another Giroud style player out there and this kid is an interesting figure and we wouldn’t need to risk as much money as Vhalovic with his wages and agent fees etc. A Loan with no obligation to buy would be perfect. Any permanent deal for a striker right now is a gamble, since we can’t put up money for Sesko or any similar profile. Screw it, let’s try him and I think they should really try to see out this Leao as striker thing, him and Puli work really well up there so let’s see but a good striker does give us the 433 to work with but I’d take this dude over Vhalovic for sure.

    1. Of all the strikers we’re currently linked with, Vlahovic is the closest striker to Giroud, since we missed out on Lucca.

I think Vlahovic is the one we will get in the end.
For some reason, I don’t seem to believe our link with Højlund, same way I didn’t believe Nunez links, only for us to hear that he was never a target for us in the first place.

  6. If he’s just on loan with no obligation there isn’t much harm, he’s got the pace that someone like Gimenez lacks, so would be a different profile to put up top. Only downside will be if man utd try and pull the loan fee stunts they used to, cuz ain’t nobody paying 12mil to take hojlund on loan

  7. Both Højlund and Vlahović are gambles and costly. Milan should look elsewhere for a striker. I suggest scouting for potential talent in the Bundesliga — recent Champions League performances have shown that the league produces several promising players. For example, Tim Kleindienst, Jonathan Burkardt, and Ermedin Demirović could be worth considering.
