GdS: A friendly with a Champions League flavour – huge crowd expected for Marseille-Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s final preseason friendly outside of Italy will take place on Sunday evening as they take on Olympique Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports how the game at 18:00 CEST will of course be a useful preseason friendly for both sides to find out where they are in terms of preparations and condition, but it has a Champions League flavour to it.

The two clubs played nearly thirty years ago in the 1993 final when Marseille won 1-0 with a header from Basile Boli, and the fans have not forgotten how much history there is between the Ligue 1 and Serie A club.

The report adds that 53,000 tickets have already been sold for Sunday and we are heading towards a potential full house at the Stade Velodrome for the fixture, which would be a capacity crowd of 67,000. Who says that preseason friendlies are not capable of drawing big crowds?

  1. Can’t wait to see how our team fight vs 2nd position team of ligue 1. They have Arkadiusz Milik, dimitri payet, and cengiz under. It’s a good starting match against ucl team.

  2. Let’s hope that the Marseille players aren’t on doping like they were in 1993. They robbed us of the first real CL trophy and the first team to win the EC1 trophy back to back.

  3. Fans really excited about watching their teams. Watched the ’93 match. That’s way back. The players shouldn’t put that in their minds. Hope for a good game, and no injuries.

  4. Olivier Giroud is still a top man .He will score more goals this season than last ..He has great technical ability ,and huge desire and belief to win all games .
This AC Milan team can challenge for honours again this season ..let’s also hope we can also compete well not only on the scuddeto but also in the champions leauge ..So a very exciting season ahead ,bring it on .
