Hungary boss responds to idea RB Leipzig star would be ready for Milan move

By Oliver Fisher -

Hungary head coach Marco Rossi has suggested that Dominik Szoboszlai would be ready for a move to AC Milan if it emerged as a possibility again.

Milan were heavily linked with a move for Szoboszlai back in 2020 when it looked like Ralf Rangnick would be taking over as the head coach and as such a number of Red Bull owned players were tipped to become targets.

However, the attacking midfielder ultimately signed for RB Leipzig despite having attracted the interest of several big clubs during the post-lockdown era. There have been whispers since that Milan still retain an interest in the 22-year-old, though they did choose to spend big on Charles De Ketelaere in the most recent summer window.

Marco Rossi gave an interview to MilanNews during which he spoke about how a number of the Rossoneri’s current players are getting on, but as part of it he was asked about the idea of Szoboszlai one day becoming a Milan player and whether he would currently be ready.

“Dominik has improved a lot in many aspects over the past year and I think he is close to becoming a top player. I believe that the decision I made to give him the captain’s armband in the national team can accelerate this process of maturation to make him truly a top player,” he said.

“But he must become more of a man, less of a boy and surely this great responsibility will help him in a very short time. He is a player who has very interesting numbers: as far as assists are concerned, he is in the very first places at a club with absolute top players.

“In my opinion, due to the potential and ballistic capabilities that he has, he doesn’t score enough. He has to score more goals and I also told him that. He is ready for any team. Dominik can go to any top club today.

“Then of course you go there, you train with the top players, sometimes you play and sometimes you don’t play, but you grow. He’s only 22 and if he completes his maturation, in 2-3 years we could have a player in the national team for another 7-8 years who can make the difference in every game.”
