CM: Next few days crucial for Ibra – a future alongside Pioli or Maldini could beckon

While he is away with Sweden hoping to qualify for the Qatar World Cup, Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at club level continues to dominate the headlines.

According to Calciomercato.com, Ibrahimovic has no intention of leaving Milan which is why the chances of him staying beyond his current contract (which expires on June 30) are increasing. Another year as a player and also a future behind the desk or in the staff of the first team could therefore beckon.

The next few days could send important signals on what the 40-year-old will do next season as Sweden are involved in the world play-offs. If they beat the Czech Republic tonight without Zlatan who is suspended, they will face Poland in the final on Tuesday.

In the event of qualifying for Qatar 2022 a new deal would seem a formality and the idea then would be for him to drop from €7m net salary to €2m plus bonuses. If he decides to hang up his boots he could remain linked to Milan, with either a role in the technical staff together with Pioli or in the management area, alongside Maldini.
