Ibrahimovic discusses mercato so far and remains cryptic on more signings: ‘Day six of seven’

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that AC Milan’s work in the transfer window has given Paulo Fonseca two players per position, but refused to rule out further signings.

Milan have so far completed four summer signings: Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid, Strahinja Pavlovic from Red Bull Salzburg, Emerson Royal from Spurs and Youssouf Fofana from Monaco.

There has been more emphasis in recent days on outgoings with Tommaso Pobega having joined Bologna earlier today and rumours suggest that Yacine Adli and even Ismael Bennacer could depart before the window shuts.

For now though the focus is on getting a first league win of the season and a first under Paulo Fonseca during tonight’s game against Parma at the Stadio Tardini.

Ibrahimovic spoke to DAZN before the game and answered questions about the current state of the squad and the rest of the mercato, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Do you still feel like playing?

“That’s the past now, since I stopped this feeling has passed.”

You have achieved all the objectives in the window. You have bought players with personality…

“It is the truth. We have bought players with character, who bring something more also from a human point of view. The team is young, they bring something more. In our opinion, last year this was missing. Let’s hope that today it goes well.”

Is the incoming market closed?

“We have doubled the players per position on the field don’t forget that we have the Milan Futuro. If we bring in too many players we block the young ones. We believe in young players, we are not afraid to push them and put them on the field.

“They must be ready, but this is our responsibility. The team is complete, we are on day six of seven and we will see what happens.”

Do you try to talk to young players a lot?

“It takes balance. One day you hug, the next day you put pressure. It’s part of the process, on and off the pitch. Then when they come in they mustn’t take a step back. When they’re ready they come in.”

Morata traveled with the team today despite his injury…

“He is still young, I was old. He is one of the leaders, he came to give support. This is important. The team is young. Morata has great experience, mentally and on the pitch.”
