In a recent interview, Zlatan Ibrahimovic named his all-time seven-a-side team, and he included two former AC Milan players within it.
Few players can list a better set of teammates than Ibrahimovic can. The Swede played for some of the best teams in Europe at the peaks of their greatness, and this means he has played with a number of the best players in the world.
Therefore, when he named his best seven-a-side of teammates, it was no surprise to see the side littered with his former teammates, including some Rossoneri representation.
Speaking to TMW at an event for the Kings League Italia, where he also spoke to Sky about the Rossoneri, he revealed which players would get in his team, and his words have been relayed by Milan News.
What formation would you choose for your seven-a-side football team?
“Buffon in goal, even if his feet weren’t top. In defence I would put Thiago Silva and Nesta, in the middle Xavi, Nedved and Iniesta. In front Messi. And I’ll be the coach.”
What will the Kings League bring to Italy?
“It will bring spectacle, show and fun for the fans, something the fans have never seen before. We are all excited. I’m happy because it’s a totally different format from professionalism, the fans will enjoy it.”
Will Ibra also be back on the pitch?
“Why not? If it suits me… I can still do something. Me like Totti? We all want to come back, then when we’re on the pitch it’s another story.”
It is somewhat surprising that the striker did not list himself within the team given his confidence in his own abilities, nevertheless, Lionel Messi is not a bad alternative by any means.
On another interview he’s strongly said he doesn’t miss being on the pitch but I think he does. He keeps imagining himself contributing as a player or coach instead of a director. Not helping his development.
Come on! A little fun in a goofy exhibition little league of 7v7 is not by any means a hinder to his development as a manager. It’s just like middle-aged men who play a game of pick-up football with their buddies on Saturdays; that doesn’t hinder their weekday profession.
