One-touch combos and foot tennis: Inside Milan’s training session on August 10

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have made training footage available on their YouTube channel, so we thought it would be a good idea to give some further insight into the sessions aside from the usual reports.

Our writer Rohit Rajeev has taken a look at yesterday’s session at Milanello. Training started off with the usual warm up exercise designed to activate the muscles to avoid injuries.

Then, the squad broke into teams of three and played a sort of game which was a mix of tennis and volleyball. One bounce of the ball was allowed and the players were allowed to pass to each other.

This is an exercise aimed at improving the players touch on the bouncing ball and bringing it under control, something important under pressure.

The players then practiced passing combinations with a quick one-touch combos, something which trains speed and accuracy.

Lastly they showed the new goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts at work with Antonio Mirante and Mike Maignan, making them work tirelessly to improve their reflexes and stop hard shots.

  1. We have to see more penetration to opposition defense. Players have to make off the ball movements and penetrating passes frequently. What we are doing so far under pioli is keeping the ball so long with no use eventually losing it. Trying too much dribbling and not passing timely when another player in space is hurting us. Pioli needs to think different with this great midfield and attack composed of technical players. They can easily play quick 1-2-1 football.
