Sky: Derby at risk for Bennacer as he sustains muscle injury – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer is at risk of missing the derby against Inter on Sunday as he has sustained a muscle problem, according to reports.

Sky are reporting that Bennacer has sustained a muscular injury to his left thigh. He will undergo tests in the next few days to understand the extent of his injury, but Milan will do everything to have him ready for the derby on Sunday against Inter.

The news is also being reported by MilanNews as they too confirm that the Algerian has an issue with his left hamstring and that scans will be done in the next few days to better understand the extent.

Bennacer was absent for the game against Sassuolo yesterday having racked up too many yellow cards and thus getting a suspension, and his presence was missed as the Rossoneri conceded five goals as their miserable start to to the 2023 calendar year continued.

  1. So it’s another injury sustained at training. And while it is well known that the pitch at Milan training grounds is hard (Ibra explains it quite well in his book) and it’s doing a number on players muscles and ligaments, training sessions could be adapted to avoid it. Training harder or more intense obviously is not a solution, it’s actually part of the problem.

One of the investments of RedBird should definitely be refreshed training ground.

  2. Physios and trainers should have their contracts terminated. Muscle injuries are clearly wrong training and post game recovery procedures.

  3. What do they expect from players that play every now and then – injuries n suspensions? Only a foolish owner would not plan for these things, but, rather, try to manage them till the end of the season.

  4. Maybe they should hire a couple of mental coaches and physiotherapists with the money they get (or don’t get…) from selling Leao.
