Di Marzio: Inter boss Inzaghi looks on with regret as Giroud’s purple patch continues

By Oliver Fisher -

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi must watch on with a sense of disappointment as Olivier Giroud continues to have a fantastic 2022 calendar year.

Gianluca Di Marzio (via SempreMilan.it) has revealed some interesting background on Giroud and how his future could have been so much different. Inter boss Simone Inzaghi is an admirer of the Frenchman, who he wanted him both at Lazio and Inter.

While with the former, Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare went to London to try and convince him but the 36-year-old decided to stay at Chelsea. Then, as soon as he arrived at Inter when Inzaghi called him again, Giroud told him he was about to sign for Milan.

Unfortunately for Simone Inzaghi, that means he has had to watch on as Giroud has played total of 47 games for club and country (including last night’s match against Australia) in 2022, scoring a total of 24 goals, 19 with the Rossoneri and 5 for his country.
