One of AC Milan’s big strengths under head coach Stefano Pioli has been the tactical fluidity shown and the idea of not playing with a fixed system.
According to what is written by today’s edition of Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it), the sheer volume injuries that have plagued Milan since the start of the current season have forced Pioli to experiment more than necessary by creating a much more ‘fluid’ module than in the past.

Through the work done on the training ground, it means Milan are able to change shape according to the characteristics of the opponent and the needs of the games, especially when there are so many absentees.
Speaking of a static 4-2-3-1 is therefore too simplistic with regards the work done at a tactical level by Pioli who, as against Juventus, in the possession phase entrusted a sort of ‘inverted Christmas tree’ to a 2-3-4-1 with the two central defenders back and the full-backs deployed further up.
Against Salzburg and Spezia, on the other hand, we witnessed a Milan ‘alla Bielsa’ that in the possession phase was arranged with a 3-3-3-1 or 3-3-1-3.
Cant see how being erratic equals tactical fluidity. The team has been mostly disjointed and disorganised this season. We have had to rely too much on individual brilliance, opponents weakness and luck this season. Hoping to get the final wins for the year so Mr Pioli can do a proper analysis and reset.
p.s.- though i like a fluid 4-2-3-1, in my observed opinion, 4-3-3 is the most versetile formation in football.
this kind of fluid football gonna need players to understand each other really well. that explain how, when the subs/reserve come in the miss-pass and error number are raising…but also why the new signing of summer hardly get playing time and why when they come in get their chance, they played below expectation.
