Inzaghi reveals how he will help Piatek drive away No.9 curse

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi has joked that he will personally deliver the No.9 shirt to Krzysztof Piatek to try and eliminate any curse.

It was announced over the summer that the Poland international would be changing his number 19 shirt that he has had for just six months at the Rossoneri.

Piatek was Milan’s top scorer in Serie A last season, scoring nine goals in 18 games following his €35million arrival from Genoa, and he has now taken on an iconic number.

A number of club legends have worn the No.9, such as the likes of Pippo Inzaghi, George Weah, Marco van Basten, and Gunnar Nordahl.

However recently, the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Andre Silva, Gianluca Lapadula, Luiz Adriano, Fernando Torres, Mattia Destro and Alessandro Matri have all worn the No.9, leading to suggestions it is ‘cursed’.

Inzaghi – who was arguably the last player to wear the number and enjoy sustained success – has a plan to help Piatek.

“I was joking last night with Giampaolo’s assistant Francesco Conti who happens to also be my friend,” he told Sky Italia (via MilanNews.it).

“I told him as soon as I get back to Milano I will go to Milanello and give Piatek personally the No.9 shirt if needed to drive away the ghosts (laughs).

“I hope that Piatek does great and that Milan have a striker who can score a lot, I like him.

“He has the spirit and desire to fight. I hope he gets the satisfaction he deserves with the Milan shirt.”
