The Council of Ministers has approved the process to grant Italian citizenship to AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Cardinale – an American financier and founder of the RedBird fund – has become Italian citizen. The resolution was approved at the proposal of Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, and in light of the favourable opinion of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.

The statement from Palazzo Chigi reads: “Mr. Cardinale, founder of RedBird Capital Partners, the company that owns AC Milan, has strongly encouraged initiatives of solidarity and social inclusion through sports, promoting activities aimed particularly at young detainees, those in vulnerable situations, and those at risk of marginalisation.”
Cardinale founded RedBird Capital Partners back in 2014, and they bought Milan in 2022 from Elliott Management for €1.2bn. Milan current sit third in Serie A, and are hoping to be able to compete for a first league title under the ownership of the fund.

Social justice is one of the biggest concerns of our time but somehow Italian ministers have nothing else to do than turning a sociopathic egomaniac with unprecedented appetite for wealth into a national treasure.
