Vincenzo Italiano has dismissed the idea that his Bologna side will focus on the Coppa Italia final above their top four charge.
As a rather strange quirk of the schedule, Milan will actually face Bologna twice in the space of a few days. They will meet in the league at San Siro on Friday night and that game means a lot more to the latter, given they are right in the hunt for a Champions League place.
For Milan, however, there is much more emphasis on the Coppa Italia final in Rome on May 14. With Sergio Conceicao’s side ninth in the table, a European spot seems a distant mirage. However, winning the game in the capital would secure a Europa League place, in addition to a second trophy.
Italiano gave an interview to DAZN after the 1-1 draw against Juventus last night and he was asked about having an eye on the two games against the Rossoneri, with MilanPress relaying his comments.
“The first in the league will be prepared to get points, then we will arrive focused on the commitment in the Coppa Italia. This is good so we don’t lose momentum: right now the objective is to get points in the league,” he said.
Bologna have theoretical chance for CL spot. However, practically they are at least as likely to finish 6-8 position.
Both teams need the win in the league mostly for confidence boost before the Copa match, where both teams are seeking Europa League spot.
