Stam endorses Milan’s potential centre-back signing: “Perfect partner for Tomori”

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan defender Jaap Stam has urged the Rossoneri management to try and complete the signing of Sven Botman from Lille.

Milan continue to be heavily linked with a move for Botman and they have been since December, with numerous sources suggesting that negotiations are moving in the right direction and the Dutchman should be one of the first summer signings, if not the first.

Stam gave an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport about Botman and suggested that he could form part of a centre-back pairing for years to come alongside Fikayo Tomori.

“Whoever signs Sven is okay for years, he will become one of the best central defenders in Europe. Perfect partner for Tomori,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

It is certainly a ringing endorsement that comes from someone who was one of the most physical and excellent centre-backs both in the 1990s and the early 2000s.

Another certificate of esteem for Milan came from Stam regarding the current situation, as he is not particularly worried at this moment about the difficulty and the struggles to score goals.

“A huge job. Six games without conceding a goal is a lot of stuff. Trophies are won this way.”

  1. was not in favor of this, but in retrospect this would push Kalulu to the RB and after his performance against Genoa enlghtened me to how effective he is at the RB.

    1. Good point. Kalulu’s cross something Milan-fans couldn’t have even dared to dream of. I think the last time such a good cross from the right side was a decade ago by someone with a nickname “Becks”. 🙂
