Former Anderlecht and Ajax star Jan Mulder has questioned Charles De Ketelaere’s decision to reject Leeds United and join AC Milan.
The saga was a long one that lasted for weeks but throughout the entire process it was made obvious that the 21-year-old Belgium international only wanted to join the Rossoneri, who are the champions of Italy and can offer Champions League football compared to Leeds who barely avoided relegation last season and are tipped to struggle again.

A statement on Milan’s official website last nightconfirmed the arrival of De Ketelaere and added that the player has signed a contract until 30 June 2027 and will wear the number 90 shirt, which he wore at Brugge, thus marking a positive end to the soap opera, but not in Jan Mulder’s eyes.
Speaking before the Champions League qualifier between Union Saint-Gilloise and Rangers, Mulder was asked for his opinion on the fact that De Ketelaere chose to join Milan despite clubs in England being interested.
“I don’t understand anything about this transfer,” he told HLN.
“Obviously he should have gone to the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world. Milan and the Serie A, that’s where celebrities go in their twilight these days. Leeds plays in the Premier League and Leeds also play attractive football. Football that suits De Ketelaere.”
Yes why would you snub champions league football and title contention in one of the worlds most beautiful and culturally important cities when you could go and fight relegation in the north of England…..

its clearly far more ambitious joining ac milan to partake in bringing us back to previous standards than joining leeds in the hope of another epl destination in a year or two, Epl might be the better league overall due to its advertisement deals but Mulder clearly must have lost the plot if he believes that joining a sinking ship like leeds would be a better choice than joining a recently sleeping giant that now is on the rise and destined for further success in the coming years.

Milan will stop in the champion league group stage.. they’re not competitive..last season was their lucky season due to the lost in form of Juventus, inter Milan and Napoli. As others have said, joining Milan at 21 to play CL football and challenge for the title is a no brainer vs. moving to Leeds and dealing with the negative pressure cooker that is a relegation fight. Obviously the idea there would be to move on to a bigger Prem club in a couple of years, but nothing prevents him from doing that from Milan. I think the player understand this. He’s 21, three years of development at Milan and he’d still be making the “big” move at 24. If CDK becomes as good as they say he will be then I think a move to the Prem, Madird, PSG, etc., is inevitable. Obviously I hope he stays forever if he is that good, but unless things in Serie A change radically in 3 years it will be difficult.
