Jorginho admits referee got major call against Milan wrong and ‘changed the game’

By Oliver Fisher -

Even Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has admitted that the referee got a major call wrong during the game between AC Milan and the Blues at San Siro tonight.

Milan’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League were dealt a big blow as they were again beaten by Chelsea without managing to score, but this time refereeing decisions were to blame moreso than an injury crisis.

The big call came in the 18th minute when Mason Mount appeared to simply shoot at Tatarusanu having been found in behind, though the referee Siebert bafflingly decided to award not only a penalty but also a red card to Fikayo Tomori for a pat on the shoulder.

Jorginho spoke during an interview with Sky Italia after the game to reflect on the performance and he was asked first and foremost about the key incident in the game, with his response relayed by MilanNews.

On the penalty: “For me it was. Maybe not a red card, but it was a penalty. This incident obviously changed the game, it certainly helped us. This time it was up to us. It’s an important victory.”

On the double challenge against Milan: “They were two different matches. When you go behind and a man down it’s not easy, we did well, even if we conceded too much.”

On Milan: “The details, at these levels, make the difference. When you have half a chance you have to take advantage of it, otherwise the result can change. Milan are growing, they won the Scudetto last year, even with one less player there they made it difficult in some situations.”
